most basic is: you don't "apply" skills, like you would in UO or similar.
you have skills. you can do everything. the skills affect everything you do. they get better, by doing things. and being better you can do more advanced things, or can do allready known things better.

tayloring and herb collecting are not very usefull at the moment.
farming makes some money, if you got the patience to wait for the plants to grow.
most other crafts "feed" the crafters adequately.
(i don't know about glasmaking)

die verfuegbare wurfwaffe, der wurfspeer, ist mit bogen- oder armbrustschiessen "verwandt", was die faehigkeiten angeht.

i dont know. i never bought a set of armor for so much money.
but i know, that i have to farm more real hours for ten silver, than it takes me by fighting monsters.

Also, what's that crap with "Omg there are some rich people who didn#t get their money from pging crafts, I swear!" i got different experiences. when in need of some quick coins, i send my char to the gnolls or to other easy monsters, collecting coins, selling the junk they drop, instead ...
