Wow, thats great, if you are poisoned NEXT to it. The hp loss is fast enough that you'd probably manage 40 steps max before death, without stopping (from spider poison anyway)

...Then you may as well just go and find a magic gem. The reason I suggested different bonuses is to make it a little more interesting. And you could have several unique weapons all as good as each other with different stats. Plus, you might even find a randomised rare weapon that does a better job...

I didn't mean everything unique would be mega strong. The weaker stuff could just be challenges for n00bs, whereas the stronger unique stuff (demon skeletons and the like) would be a challenge for higher level fighters. It wouldn't be very nice for a n00b to suddenly get 1 hit by a mummy in the cryp...

. I do find it to be bad form for monster to just drop a piece of a book. In the first place a monster needs a reason to have the piece, also, these will become VERY common pieces as fighters will get them randomly while killing. Solutions? either make it so these only drop if a mage is in the area...

Why not have 10 second stat penalties then?

HEAD: Blurred vision (looks like fog/blood) (Perc -2)
CHEST: Weakens your armor for a short time (Strength/Const -2)
HANDS: Weakens your attacks (Dex -2)
LEGS: Cripples you for a while (Agility -2)
FEET: Knocks you back a tile or two (Agility -2)

Why not? Seems like a good idea to me, maybe put them in hard to reach places for higher level runes, so they need to team up with higher level mages or other players to help them get the item.
