Have you read of Goldberg? http://illarion.org/community/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25582&highlight=goldberg Ahh. Goldberg. I am glad someone is studying this almost forgotten branch of Illarion's history! What a wonderful thing indeed that you mentioned Goldberg, the progenitor of Silverbrand's Je...

Finally someone sees the sense of it. Thank you Mr.Cromwell. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just avoid the taxman buy making sure he didn't know our name? Or all the bill collectors for that matter? This business of being able to hide totally is just not right. On an island this small? If you are ...

Unless I am completely mistaken, there are other things such as undead that the magic theory does not in fact adequately explain. It's a theory in the end. 1.) How does a mage implementing magic to a sword make the end result of the contradicting theory any different? 2.) Buttsecksing smithing does ...

I'll give an example with Car-industry. Craftsmen are the Car manufacturer/assembler. They have the goal of making a certain type of car (item) for which they need an assortment of resources, semifinished goods and so on. For them, it's important that the resources have the qualities they are lookin...

Re: Scrolls

That depends entirely on the ammount of resources and time required to enchant gear =) There are other ways to ensure this, for example by implementing flawless/masterwork weapons, or similar. Well, no. You see.. that would either mean that the magical weapons become a little pointless (if the mast...

Re: Scrolls

I like Crommy's suggestion too. Arcane Crafters would really bring a new dimention to the game, and would suply an explanation of where all the magical gear comes from. It is my opinion that all mages should have the ability to create scrolls though, while Arcane Crafters should have monopoly on en...

Precisely. 200 is the bare minimum acceptable amount. Sure, that's a pain in the ass to collect/buy/cut, but I can assure anyone that so is getting them through fighting.

Well, I actually have toyed with the idea that mages would get an "enchanter"-class, with ability to craft magical items (not by pulling essence or mana from their behinds, but rather by being a part of the economy: cut gems would be used for this) in return for weaker combat magic. They w...

1.) Rings. Two rings can be enchanted in a way that they act as "maps" for eachother, if the persons carry the rings on their belt/ring spots. If they do not, the rings are quiet. 2.) Mages can create scrolls of Finding. These require you to know the true name of the person (and if there's...

Well, last time I checked, mages can kill monsters too (much easier than fighters even).

As for crafters, they seriously need something to spend money on anyway.

I think Matt transcended to a level where he can actually "smell" or "feel" the status of skill progression, rather than having to bother with the RGB-stuff.. :P

Then again, he's about the last person whom I'd consider as a representative of the "average players". ;)

So how would you address the fact that there will be too many mages running around? Nerf mages? Too many mages isn't even a problem, It's a worry that you've came out with for yourself. I do agree that walls and like should not be amongst any noob mages though, for annoyance reasons. -Matt I think ...

Well, rule is rule...sure its not that good for new ones but if the new players can swap the atts others would want that too... Well, makes plenty o' more sense than applications for a goblin, if you ask me.

EDIT: And those applications would, in fact, be in conjunction with the rune-book concept.

Athian: The application can actually be done in two parts. Firstly, there can be an automated part which is simply such: A button next to your character that says: Become a mage Technical limitations (which are told to the players) - Minimum of 10 int (required to learn ancient) - Minimum of 30 int/...

To Mister Alex Rose. Good sir, I am much obliged to agree with your most enlightened suggestion. However, I do must say that in my most humble opinion, this correction should be viewed to be only of temporary nature. Regrettably such fix offers little to no aid to some grave issues which we all must...

I like the idea. However, considering what Estralis said.. Is it easier to script items which, when you use them with another item, autoadd a predefined script-description? Say, you tell Pharse to create 50 "Gravure: Property of Cromwell I the Awesome" descriptions, which I could stamp on ...

Clearly if there's no middleground between owning everything in sight and sucking, then there's something wrong. I mean, it works (suggesting you're the one who's owning) but it should work better . - Runes are gained through studying books in libraries (perhaps as a function of stats+library resear...

I'm not opposed to creation of such neutral teaching place at all. I mean, if we can have some improvement in regards to the situation RIGHT NOW, then hell, lets go for it (especially since this is merely a small tweak in comparison to creating a new system). However, I still think that on the long ...

Demons, Rot Worms and Beholders were used much more frequently in days past, (I saw rot worms and beholders in my first week (In fact I met a beholder in the wild east of TB so I think they even might have spawned at the time) and greater demons within a couple of months) however, again, the rarely...
