I dislike the bonus idea for the exact reason Felbion mentioned. The gap between new characters and highly-skilled ones is already far too great, such a bonus would only widen it. I also don't think that it would have the desired effects. Death would still be nothing more than an annoyance, only a s...

I'll mention again, just to make it clear, that I am not going to try and argue for a universal, one-life, permadeath system. I don't think it would be possible to implement such a system in an already running game, for many of the reasons already mentioned in this thread. People grow attached to th...

Permanent Death

I was going to post this in Arvernor's thread, but didn't want to derail the discussion there. Though Nitram's suggestion in that thread was clearly tongue in cheek, I actually do think that a permadeath system would do wonders for this game. A simple clarification of the rules surrounding death is ...

Re: The problem of Vanima

I truly hope that a PO with the sensibilities of Quinasa plays the next character to be Elder.

But I really see no argument here. The POs are quitting because roleplay happened. Roleplay that prevented them enjoying quiet-love-peace-flower time with their friends. Oh well.

A rather portly halfling approaches the board, reads over it, and begins to laugh uncontrollably. Wiping a tear from his eye, he scribbles a quick note upon a piece of parchment, and pins it beneath the most recent posting. Regarding the charges laid against the human, Magnus Magnol, by the elfess,...

As long as that attitude in the community does not change, illarion will always run low on quests and questers. So then let's change the attitude. The reason people complain so much is because their whining works. Their ridiculous complaints are actually listened to by the higher-ups, and acted upo...

Re: Is Illarion doomed to being another hack and slash?

"...real role playing in Illarion." They just say that as a joke. I think Flux identified the real problem. The reason these quests become so lame is because no one is ever affected by the 'evil'. For some messed up reason, the GMs can't do anything to anyone without causing an 'OMGFORCED...

Edric strides through the streets of Troll's Bane, his limp barely noticeable. With every other step, the butt of his staff gently strikes the cobbled ground beneath. Stepping into the defiled building, Edric closed his eyes. He could not bear to witness the sight once more. Chairs lay strewn across the floor, good for nothing but firewood now. Asylum

The Viceroy stood at the window of his office, peering out across Troll's Bane. Behind him, two attendants silently, but swiftly, cleared the room, filling two small chests with his possessions. Books, parchment, finery, gold. Everything of worth, and able to fit, was hurriedly packed into the conta...

The existance(!) of the gods of Illarion is unquestionable. It is like not believing in bats or toads. Maybe your character never saw a toad and hence, has problems believing that they exist, but he'll be an outsider. 99% of all characters should simply laugh about such a point of view. Another asp...

Everyone does ignore the Gods, to quite a significant extent. I just searched through my chat logs. Out of over 1,030,000 words there, the following figures show how many times each God was mentioned. These figures included alternative names (All-Mother, Bone Lord, etc). Ushara: 25 Bragon: 36 Eldan:...

Lighting fires in the manner described is forced RP. You are forcing other characters to act in a specific way. In this case you make them ignore an arsonist attacking their home, and take no actions to deal with the fires that threaten or destroy their property. It is exactly the same situation as ...

Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the Demon Quest. It has been a lot of fun, and really well put together.
