Re: More Off Topic

Subject: Off Topic If you cannot handle criticism, you shouldn't volunteer for a staff position. This comment is quite out of place. It was not criticism, it were grave insults against players and staff members alike why the off topic forum was closed. Perhaps not so out of place, a lot of those is...

More Off Topic

http://illarion.org/community/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41352 Feel free to merge with the existing topic. It was a fluke that I saw this discussion at all and I couldn't muster enough interest to email a staff member and wait for permission to post but I wanted to weigh in since I'm referenced yet ...

Re: Death

There seems to be an uptick in discussion over the death system lately which is making me curious so I'm going to toss a couple questions out there... Do you guys think the shrinking player base is the result of a no-consequence death system? Is this where Illarion's limited development time would b...

Re: Was there a time when Illarion had more than 10 players

We are currently working on the issues you mentioned, Kamilar. The learning system is currently under review. There will be changes to do. To what degree and what kind of changes is too early to say. We are currently exploring options. I also believe that once we have monster guards who try to beat...

Re: Was there a time when Illarion had more than 10 players

Blame Fooser for making me look at the forums again ... From my perspective (and this is just my personal opinion - not an official stance) what we need most are role players who will respond to what happens around them... be that official quests or random occurrences. By respond I don't just mean a...

Re: Some devoted spice

As I see it, the game currently demands players all play 'good guys' or face harsh sanctions from game mechanics controlled by other players. This has led to a stagnant and uninteresting game world because in a system where one side holds all the power, there is no reason for them to compromise or c...

Re: Was there a time when Illarion had more than 10 players

Kamilar, what is the game you are currently playing called? Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not posting here to advertise another game or to draw players away from Illarion. I only mention the other game to illustrate my point. I want to contrast my very positive experience there with my time he...

Re: Was there a time when Illarion had more than 10 players

It's underlying story is completely and totally unrelated to all ingame events and there is no conceivable plot at all -- no red line of events. And apart from that, everything that happens ingame is unrelated, there is nothing for characters to figure out, there is only mindless content fed to the...

Re: Was there a time when Illarion had more than 10 players

An influx of new players is only one piece of the pie. New players seem to be clearing whatever account creation hurdles are in place. They're trickling in no matter what obstacles exist or what milestones are planned. There are many established players who know exactly what Illarion has to offer an...

Re: Was there a time when Illarion had more than 10 players

I see post-VBU Illarion as cat herding. Telling players that the outcomes for their character's skills are totally preset and predetermined and that their own input makes no difference whatsoever is not exactly motivational for game playing. Setting the focus for New Illarion to be on ranks and leve...

Re: Was there a time when Illarion had more than 10 players

Since it's you, just a thought on new accounts... Instead of spawning them in Noobia, maybe skip that part and have them spawn in whichever area is busiest at the time of log in if that possibility exists. The details of faction placement could be taken care of with a pop-up dialogue box like the on...

Re: Was there a time when Illarion had more than 10 players

It's of personal interest to me to learn that the general activity dropped in April. Beyond that, I would note that a contributing factor to the lackluster interest in Illarion might be in part due to the hostile and accusatory manner that is generally accepted here and evidenced in this very thread...

Re: [Race Guild] Dwarves of Galmair

My two cents since my name was mentioned and I apologize for slipping somewhat off-topic but my exit from active game play had nothing to do with guilds and whether they are or are not supported. I can't be 100% certain about other players, but I don't think the departures of Fooser and Arcia were g...

Re: New types of punishments

Pre-VBU, when the development team was fielding ideas for New Illarion, I proposed a PvP-free zone. The response was an immediate and definite 'no' supported by the concept that Illarion is a PvP game. Period. The concept of a safe-zone has been proposed several times since then and has always been ...

Re: Review of Chancellor System

And as long as I'm here for a visit, I'll put my 2 cents in on this topic too ... I don't think little tweaks will really fix anything and I think the problem is larger than the Galmair elections. Personally, I think the best approach would be to abandon The-Illarion-As-Political-Simulator-Game alto...

Re: New types of punishments

I got sucked into the forums while holding Mephy's hand but this topic really caught my eye. Funneling players into ever narrower character concepts is damaging to the creativity needed to support a concept like Illarion. This heavy focus of players seeking power over other players, trying control t...

Re: High Noon

The elfess slipped away as the woman nursed the baby then quickly returned with a small drum and a wooden spoon as they finished the feeding. "I've enjoyed spending time with her," the elfess said in reply to the woman before looking toward the ruckus on the rooftop with a soft chuckle. "I'm game fo...

Re: High Noon

The elfess seemed not quite at ease. Perhaps it was the heat - though she'd lived for years in the desert, she had recently taken to spending her nights in colder climes - or perhaps it was trying to keep the squealing baby occupied that had her slightly off balance. The elfess was placid enough, ma...

Re: Alchemy

This points to a pretty clear confusion in our wording. In the interest of removing as much frustration as we can, is it possible to change the word 'kettle' to 'cauldron' in the instructions? Or conversely to rename the 'cauldrons' as 'kettles'?

Re: Alchemy

The kettles are cauldrons. They look like big black bowls. In Runewick, it's in the hospital building, in Cadomyr it's in the marketplace against the wall and in Galmair it's in the first building on the left as you enter the town by the main gate. I'm not sure what you need but for sure you need po...

Re: Maximum Training Cost

1. I'm quite sure you haven't maxed 2 crafts. Max would mean a skill of 100! One of my character met yours and what I've learned, you are far away from max. So there are more than 20 levels! But... how do I get past level 20? Should I just start another topic at this point? Skills all go to...

Re: Shackles of Freedom

The elfess' usual closed and private nature had been mortified by her exposure and there now seemed little left to hide. The leaves were turning and beginning to fall and taking a cue from the trees, the elfess cut her hair short, her long, silky hair now replaced with short, tousled, unruly spikes....

So there are no other concerns and arguments than skilling? While skills are of course an aspect of Illarion, didn't Illarion used to be about more? I finally got a chance to look around a little bit today. The updated graphics for fish and spruce trees are beautiful. I also like that the bottles are no longer invisible. Nice work! :D
