Does repairing weapons and armors raise the smithing skill?

I already know how to mine and have a lot of iron and coal.

But i want to know how can i melt and what tools i need to melt and once i get lingots what tools i need to blacksmithing

and what happen if i still fighting? my skill dont raise? or what exactly happen?

After some battles theres a message that say me that i have to rest to be mentally fit, how do i rest? simply dont attacking or i have to sleep?
