Re: Illarion Open Source Initiative

Just imagine how a player will feel who did FOIG a hard problem/quest but is treated like he just read it in the code? Well, if you want to brag about how cool and smart you are because you just solved that riddle, well, this won't work anymore then, there you are right. However the dedicated playe...

Re: Illarion Open Source Initiative

May I add something: There are thousands of games out there with cheat codes and full walkthroughs available. Yet dedicated players try to solve everything on their own first and only use these help texts if they get stuck. And to be honest: every game designer publishes games exactly for those dedi...

Re: Conflict?

The current setting encourages to cause trouble at other factions, not in your own faction. Mind that for your future plans. This way you will still have a place to go and maybe cause even war between factions.

Re: The State of Illarion from a crotchety old player. Again

And you know what? I would have loved to help the original staff, much earlier. I would have loved to go to their university and worked on this project back then. I think that would have been really cool, because most of them were really cool people. What happened to them Pharse? Most of them packe...

Re: The State of Illarion from a crotchety old player. Again

"Screw you, we're developers developing" attitude here is a problem Whoa, that's just wrong. I recommend to mind your own advices: Read. Consider. Think. Apparantly you either have no idea or you ignore the staff's effort to include willing players into the developing process. Maybe you j...

As I've already said, I have nothing to do with client development and all your listed things are client issues. Nevertheless I can give you some hints (in general as a computer scientist): 1. Maybe easy to realize, maybe difficult, depends on internal character representation. 2. Should be not so h...

Re: 5 things I'd like to see

I think you misunderstood Estralis. You are always welcome to make suggestions. But if you want them to be done in the near future, you should make them the right way: more details, create a task in Mantis. This topic will be lost in the forums. I have now read your suggestions, but I have nothing t...

Grundsätzlich gilt: Durch Sammelaktionen, die einen Skill benutzen, der auch für die Herstellung der Endprodukte verwendet wird, kann man diesen Skill nicht über 20 steigern. Alle ander...

Re: A wee question

Actually you can already become a devotee of any younger god (lookat the altars for more information and use it to become a devotee). If you gather a congregation you could become a priest, but this is deactivated for now. Being a devotee will also have some effects, e.g. visible at player lookat, b...

Now we are going to have to rp around the awkwardness of nobody around knowing anything about the region. There will be no locals! Bags within bags will be empty when your character is transferred with the VBU so don't store any items in bags that are in your character's inventory. Re: I was thinking...

The learning algorithm was completely changed. We first have to see how this works out. The idea that players can actively choose a specialization supported by the game mechanics looks nice to me at the first glance, however it should be reconsidered carefully after the VBU. If such a thing would co...

Re: Brainstorming on Noobia

Expanding the square range of an NPCs response outside of noobia will only serve to annoy the players. Maybe expanding it in noobia is a good idea though. ... which will probably lead to confused newbies once they left noobia. However one could expand the range for the NPCs just to say something li...

For technical correctness, one should mention that NPCs can't attack or be attacked, so they can't gain any fighting skill by fighting. You actually speak of monsters, as Estralis implicitly pointed out.

Just as food for thought: When I was active, I once played a character that had to oppose the temple guys (due to his guild membership). So there was this moment my char met a temple member. Unfortunately this player obviously assumed that I (the PO) would act like all the other OOC driven players (...

"respawn time" should not be increased. It's boring to be a ghost. Penalties are frustating. So... try the opposite: a bonus for all those who haven't died for a long time. When ghosted, this bonus is set to null again.
