Well, currently smiths can make A LOT more money than 'any' other craft by far, spliting could be a good idea if well implemented but what about the smiths we already have? They wont forget a part of smithing just like that.

Stop picking on Martin guys, that wipe I consider was probably pretty harsh and unfair to a lot of people I can imagine, I'd probably have been a bit pissed myself if I still played, considering my character Arameh probably still was one of the character with the most armors and weapons of all kinds...

You need the skill to poison decently, and you get it by hitting stuff with poison weapons, I guess.
