Yes I've set the graphics to reduced throughout. Sorry I failed to report this. I have also since experimented with 32 bit mode. In both cases I have seen no change in behaviour, that is sometimes I get told I have an old client version, and sometimes I get to play for a minute or so. I have tried e...

Hooray - removing and reinstalling the client has fixed the problem. Thanks Nop. Sadly after about a minute of playing in Windowed mode with reduced graphics the client crashed informing me that I was running too slowly and should reduce graphics and/or frame rate. I reduced my machines colour-depth...

I used the online installation. It had to install J2SE 1.5.0 first, but then got on with the client installation. Java webstart seems to think I have everything. First of all I'll retry the online installation as you recommend. If that fails I'll do more research into if I have the dll I need somewh...

java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException explained
I can't log in using the new client, and have figured out why not, so I thought I'd explain what to look for for other people with the same error. I am trying from a pretty old machine with a Voodoo 5 graphics card. When launching I see "Unexpected exception: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetE...

Playing from multiple computers
I currently have access to one of 2 computers at any given time, without too much choice as to which one I get. If I want to play with the same character on both computers do I simply need to copy the folder "<character name>" from the most recently used computer to the current one before ...

I agree that you should be able to just wander through most places without carrying armour, so long as you are prepared to run at the first sign of trouble, and are of average pace or above. I think encumbered characters should be catchable by most monsters, and I think that it should be tough to ru...

Additionally your opponent would have an easy time parrying you. To avoid hitting your oversized weapons into each other you will have to keep one of the in a wide area at all times, and weapons coming in from wide are easy to block. Thinking about it though stronger characters will be more likely t...

Not really, like 30 apples aren't. That may be impossible in real life without a refrigerator, but some things shouldn't be TOO realitic in a game. Its easily possible in real life. A real life medieval farmer wishing to sell apples at a market would carry a sack of a hundred apples easily enough. ...

You can have both poisoned apples and stackable apples. The poisoned ones can't stack with the non-poisoned one, so you end up with players able to easily tell which are which. As such it would require good seperation of IC and OOC knowledge to play a character that gets poisoned, but it can be done...

A stack of identical items you store as: (<Item type>, <number of items>) rather than an entry for each individual item. (I've not seen the code, this is just a guess, but it is common sense). If two items are different in any attribute, they can't stack. I don't think it would be a nightmare to hav...

Sure. I totally agree, there are a lot of characters that are far more literate than you might expect them to be given their backgrounds. I've gone for the joys of semi-literate, but I might have to let my character learn to write properly one day. I was just making the point that this isn't a typic...

You'd be amazed how the discovery that some people are inclined to magic, allowing them to produce huge columns of flames and the like on behalf of the king's army, would lead to a hell of a lot more formal education being available. Any sane feudal government will search like mad for these individu...

Sure, downtime is good and can be used well. But a week is long enough to require some sort of interesting explaination for what you have been up to. And I could come up with what happened in the last week for my character when I log off for an IG week. Only if I play ever single day (RL) I'm in dow...

So, if I don't log in for a real week my character has been sleeping, or otherwise missing, for 42 days? Wow, but that is a lot of sleep, but then my character will need it because they only feel hungry and eat once every week or so. At that pace days become more or less meaningless, and significant...

Many, many, many thanks to everyone that got the new server up, and the new client working. It is very very cool, and I can now play safe in the knowledge that the dreaded character wipe is gone. I think magics should be kept seperate, or if a character has two types, he shold be serious limited in how good he could ever get with them both. I don't think this for RP reasons, I think this for OOC reasons. Firstly it gives the different magic systems a bit more personality. Secondly a game is ...

The part I find flawed is: 2. Character concept in fact only has to do with your stats (I am an intelligent, clumsy, weak, observant halfling) Two intelligent, clumsy, weak, observant halflings could be very very different and based around different concepts. For example consider the concept: My cha...

Yeah, sorry. I'm more than a little tired. Imagine I had said dexterity. The question still stands, as does the more important question of should the GMs answer the question 'Do bards need dexterity'? On one level the answer is obviously no, because you are a bard if and only if your fellow roleplay...

Well I made a mistake initially because the reality of how things were in game didn't match my common sense. I assumed, inaccurately, that druids would not require a great deal of intelligence because my preconception of what a druid is, differs from that set down in Illarion. When I discovered this...
