Yes I've set the graphics to reduced throughout. Sorry I failed to report this. I have also since experimented with 32 bit mode. In both cases I have seen no change in behaviour, that is sometimes I get told I have an old client version, and sometimes I get to play for a minute or so. I have tried e...

Hooray - removing and reinstalling the client has fixed the problem. Thanks Nop. Sadly after about a minute of playing in Windowed mode with reduced graphics the client crashed informing me that I was running too slowly and should reduce graphics and/or frame rate. I reduced my machines colour-depth...

I used the online installation. It had to install J2SE 1.5.0 first, but then got on with the client installation. Java webstart seems to think I have everything. First of all I'll retry the online installation as you recommend. If that fails I'll do more research into if I have the dll I need somewh...

java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException explained

I can't log in using the new client, and have figured out why not, so I thought I'd explain what to look for for other people with the same error. I am trying from a pretty old machine with a Voodoo 5 graphics card. When launching I see "Unexpected exception: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetE...

I think it makes sense to be fixed, and is better for game balance. This is despite me "screwing up" as a newbie. I made a character with a particular mind set, and an idea of the things they might do. This gave me enough info to choose stats. Sadly my preconceptions of the world were bad ...

Playing from multiple computers

I currently have access to one of 2 computers at any given time, without too much choice as to which one I get. If I want to play with the same character on both computers do I simply need to copy the folder "<character name>" from the most recently used computer to the current one before ...

Thanks for keeping us informed, and for being responsive to the questions asked on the forums. It's part of what makes this game great, the fact that the GMs are listening and keen, rather than wage driven and having to struggle through red tape to make a code change. Thanks.

I agree that you should be able to just wander through most places without carrying armour, so long as you are prepared to run at the first sign of trouble, and are of average pace or above. I think encumbered characters should be catchable by most monsters, and I think that it should be tough to ru...

Additionally your opponent would have an easy time parrying you. To avoid hitting your oversized weapons into each other you will have to keep one of the in a wide area at all times, and weapons coming in from wide are easy to block. Thinking about it though stronger characters will be more likely t...

Aah, but then people just get changed in the shops a lot into there non-armour clothes. And then people ambush people in shops because they don't be wearing armour, and it all gets very repetative very fast. I like the "badly made clothes reduce your agility a little" idea. Alternatively o...

Not really, like 30 apples aren't. That may be impossible in real life without a refrigerator, but some things shouldn't be TOO realitic in a game. Its easily possible in real life. A real life medieval farmer wishing to sell apples at a market would carry a sack of a hundred apples easily enough. ...

I'm with the "why can't we use both types" arguement? Consider the following option for how to make the graphical version as fully featured as the non-graphical: When I use an NPC with myself they list their wares in an inventory window. On each item is a number (same as the quantity numbe...

You can have both poisoned apples and stackable apples. The poisoned ones can't stack with the non-poisoned one, so you end up with players able to easily tell which are which. As such it would require good seperation of IC and OOC knowledge to play a character that gets poisoned, but it can be done...

A stack of identical items you store as: (<Item type>, <number of items>) rather than an entry for each individual item. (I've not seen the code, this is just a guess, but it is common sense). If two items are different in any attribute, they can't stack. I don't think it would be a nightmare to hav...

Sure. I totally agree, there are a lot of characters that are far more literate than you might expect them to be given their backgrounds. I've gone for the joys of semi-literate, but I might have to let my character learn to write properly one day. I was just making the point that this isn't a typic...

You'd be amazed how the discovery that some people are inclined to magic, allowing them to produce huge columns of flames and the like on behalf of the king's army, would lead to a hell of a lot more formal education being available. Any sane feudal government will search like mad for these individu...

So, if I don't log in for a real week my character has been sleeping, or otherwise missing, for 42 days? Cool. I can't wait to meet a goldsmith character of yours in game, and convince him that he should give me huge amounts of gold for a big discount. No willpower means easy to manipulate by someone who knows how.

It should be possible for a script to be knocked up that the GMs can use to edit heights, but I can't see it being a priority. Perhaps when heights are made meaningful or displayable (if that isn't already the case) a means of tweaking them could be added.

As far as I can tell what doesn't work is upping your height by 10cm when in is at 160cm or more. I can up it by one until it reaches 168cm. Which is still pretty short for a really tall human, even by medieval standards.

I think magics should be kept seperate, or if a character has two types, he shold be serious limited in how good he could ever get with them both.
