Surely you can just go in illarion.cfg and add (or edit) the line lastCharacters=Zal|Char2|Char3|Blah|Blah? Yeah, tell the new player to edit the configuration file by hand. While you're there, how about decompiling the jar files, finding a way around the obsfucator modify the check for the lenght ...

Had the same Problem when I was trying to log in as "Zak", the name is too short. - open log-in window -> type in a name longer than 3 letters, make one up -> press Enter - it will try to log in but of course fail because there is no such char - open log-in window again, the long name sho...
