Re: VBU and mage chars
If you feel that the temporary loss of a magic system is going to ruin your character then, I'm sorry, but you can't have had much of a character to begin with. There is really nothing to do but see this as the roleplaying challenge that it is. Complaining, pointing out the negative consequences, st...

Re: How do you roleplay ghosting
@grokk: I agree that any roleplayer should think about how his character handle a situation in which he died and how he change maybe afterwards. Anyway i don't agree that it have to change anyone. In reason of my job i know many people were reanimated in reason of a heart attack or similar event. S...

Re: How do you roleplay ghosting
How can you take death seriously when you can just go to a cross. Because the character doesn't know this. As a player, sure, you know that you can continue to resurrect your character indefinitely. Unless you want them to, they will never stay dead. Death in Illarion just isn't a big deal to the p...

:| About as much as they currently do, I believe. Your character isn't going to be fully protected unless they are wearing a helmet. No one is going to be encouraged to leave their character's head completely exposed when fighting. Unless you are playing a character that suffers from an irrational f...

Re: VBU Q&A Revisited
Perhaps I should try to clarify my concerns... particularly with the direction the VBU quests appear to be taking. Is there any intention to involve committed and current players in politics at an early stage in the VBU? Surely you risk alienating a sizeable proportion of players if you do not invo...

Re: VBU Q&A Revisited
As Nitram stated, the bug exploitation is not the primary reason behind the possible gem wipe. It is simply one of many factors that will influence their ultimate decision. If the gems are wiped, it will be the result of a significant overhaul to the gem system as a whole. These changes that Nitram ...

Re: Ingame Interferences
If you ever have an issue with the way another player is interacting with your character, try speaking to them about it. Chances are, when you feel that another player has done something wrong, they are going to be completely unaware. You are not going to change anything by keeping your problem to y...

Re: Ingame Interferences
It ought to be acknowledged that, in the current state of the game, being banished from Troll's Bane is effectively no different than being locked up in prison. In both cases you are reducing the chance that the player will find roleplay to what might as well be nil. People threw a tantrum over the ...

Unfortunate that your post will be deleted. It is the only one in this entire thread that might actually help improve someone's roleplay. Blade being raised to friend's throat. Re: Roleplay Do's and Don't(s)
Having both is essential for a diverse and interesting world, and for the purposes of a roleplaying game I would say the greater the contrast the better. When you have contrast you will more likely have conflict, which as many have already said has made for their most exciting and intense experienc...

Re: Roleplay Do's and Don't(s)
As explained, Mary Sue is certainly a viable character, and there's no call to put down characters just because you personally don't like them. I'm not sure what you are getting at with the discussion of archetypes. The fact that a character adheres to an archetype has very little bearing upon whet...

Re: Becoming Evil
There's a difference between "evil" characters that are fun for everyone and "evil" characters that are fun for noone but the players themselves and end up being a so-called "pain-in-the-arse" for everyone else. The difference is caused by how the player plays (or unde...

Re: Becoming Evil
If you make chars that are purely "good" or "evil", you'll end up with stereotypics sooner than you want. I would suggest to play a character with balanced dephts and heigths, and generally avoid playing something too "uncommon". If you still prefer playing an "ev...

That would work well, sure. But there's no "best" way to play any type of character.
My advice is just to be prepared for the drama that will find its way onto your doorstep once you disturb Arcadia. And not the good kind of drama, mind you.

Re: VBU Q&A Revisited
I don't know about that hint system I'm seeing in the screenshot there. Sounds like something I'd rather find out in character. I wouldn't mind technical things like "Say 'Help' to an NPC to get a list of commands" or "Press F9 to look at the world map". That'd help Newbies. The...

It's sad if you actually agree with him and are going to argue with a player who loves the game. Blind loyalty is not something that should be praised. Illarion is a great game. The experiences that I've had while playing put it up there amongst my favourites. But that is no reason not to point out...

Re: The overall roleplay and pitfalls.
The application system was removed for a reason, and it would make no sense to reintroduce it now, with the state of Illarion being as it is. There are already far too few new players joining; I'm not sure why you would want to reduce that even further. I think you'd find that an account system woul...

Re: The overall roleplay and pitfalls.
For me, it seems that these problems are fundamental to Illarion. The game just isn't that conducive to good roleplay. you know what, I do play this game quite a long time. And I always loved the special charm of this game. Is unique it is somthing special. If you wanna just slash and kill, go, you...
