There are four apects of magic in the world of Illarion.

Contents

[edit] 1 Arcane Magic

Mages

Perhaps the most common group of casters people take up. Mages are found widley among humans and elves but can be found in any race. Magic in Illarion depends on runes. As a new mage character, you do know some of the theory, but you don't know the runes yet. These can be aquired by finding a master mage who agrees that he will teach you – some will do that just if they like you, some will do that for many coins – or in some quests.

Battlemages

An uncommon group of spellcasters that can be difficult to play and somewhat hard to design. Battlemages (sometimes referred to as warlocks) benefit in a lesser degree from the powers of arcane magic as well as melee combat. As such the Battlemage is in fact weaker then the classic mage in spell casting and also inferior to a full blooded warrior in combat(due too balancing attributes between melee and magic). However the combination of both magic and melee makes the battlemage an excellent stand alone character when compared to either the mage or the fighter. Battlemages often wear light armor made from leather, fur and magical metals. They also use a variety of weapons, though the most common is the battlestaff as it causes the least strain upon the use of their magic.

Battlemages require a great amount of effort and are not recommended for beginners

[edit] 2 Druids

[edit] 2.1 Druids, alchemists, rangers and more

The druidsystem offers a wide spectrum of different careers for your chars of all races. A nature loving druid, an old herb woman, a cranky alchemist or an evil poisoner. They are in knowledge about the growing places of seldom herbs, where animals lives and about the useage of herbs, like for potions. Furthermore the most of the medicos have their origin here.

Druids

Druids are a peaceful, nature loving people. Druids may act as healers in a variety of situations, where there mystical potions and knowledge of the body can be detrimental in the preservation of life. Druid magic is based upon the production of magical potions which use a variety of herbs to create. Being a productive skill, druid magic requires many items and tools in order to produce these potions, and as such druids are not a good choice of spontaneous solo adventuring.

Alchemists

Essentially the same as a druid, Alchemists are the more scientific members of the potion brewing world. Alchemists share all the same abilities as the Druid, but the codex and rules they follow can differ greatly from their more classic incarnation.

Rangers

A Ranger is a forest dwelling individual who spans the line between a druid and a warrior. Rangers are versed in combat, especially when it comes to using the bow and the dagger. They also are capable of producing mystical potions for personal use or to help others. Rangers much like many combination "classes" may not be as adept in their respective arts as their purebred counterparts. The quality of Ranger's potions may pale in comparison to that of the Druid or Alchemist and their archery and weapons play might not measure up to a classic warrior. However the combination of these two aspects makes a versatile character that benefits from both worlds

Rangers can be difficult to create and to play, requiring a great deal of effort on the part of the player. Not recommended for beginners.

[edit] 2.2 Druidsystem

The druidsystem is primary based on potions with different functions and effects. The power of the potion comes from herbs and the right mixture of them. The variety of recipes is huge. But all recipes are secret. No one has to make them public out of game.

'Analyzing runes' are an important tool of druids. They support them to find out the effects of herbs and their quality. Advanced druids also have tools to analyze ready made potions of other druids or to make a diagnosis about the illness of a patient before they heal them.

Lots of possibilities are given by the druidsystem. The power of the potions is still the secret of few. Whoever like to make experiments to find out good potions, whoever is in patience to solve the mysteries of the druids will have lots of fun here.

[edit] 2.3 How can I become a druid?

The start is difficult, especially for all without any idea about the druidsystem. Only to get an overview it would be a good begin to find support. Different guilds and free masters offer their help. Some of them also teach new druids.

In case that you can not find any support by other ones you also can try to start without. It will be difficult some more, but the druidsystem also allows to start the career alone.

Equal with or without a master the druid career begins with an initiation. A "druidpotion" has to be used to become a druid. But be careful. It can not be reversed. The questions about the druidpotion and how to get one of them can be answered in reading of three different books. These are hidden in a library of Gobaith. They also will give basic information about the theory and functions of the druidsystem.

[edit] 3 Bards

Bards draw their power over the feelings and minds of peoples by chanting mystic and hypnotic tunes. Note: Bard magic is not present in the game and not under development.

[edit] 4 Priests

Priests are not always users of magic but they are very religious people. Priests usually rely on the power of the gods they worship to give them an advantage. Note: Priest magic is not present in the game but IS under development.
