The Troll's Bane Town Guard is a mostly goverment lead organisation to protect the citizens inside the walls of Troll's Bane, but was also used to do campaigns in the past. The Troll's Bane Town Guard is the oldest town guard of Gobaith. It has a long history, stretching back to its founding in the last month of the third year. ((November 2003)) The first captain was Ultoris.

[edit] 1 History and Deeds

The initial town guard was led by Ultoris under the eyes of the Lyrenzia Foundation and the Grey Rose. The initial members were Hagen von Rabenfeld, John Irenicus, Aronthus, Cedric Kilmar and Nedor von Largon. The founding of the town guard was announced by Franjel Sálem Long of the High Circle of the Grey Rose. The guards were ment to protect the citizens of Troll's Bane from dangers from the inside and enforce the Lyrenzia Laws. These laws are used until today, although they were changed at various points during the years.

In the later years the Troll's Bane Town Guard was often accused of acting at random and not stickung to the rules. The captains always denied that. The town guards had permission to ban criminals for certain amounts of time, but also had to report cases to Lyrenzia, where trials were held. There were 61 trials decided under the rule of Lyrenzia. Although, many criminals were judged only by the town guard. During the last month of Lyrenzia the Town Guard was factual the government of Troll's Bane, with the only real armed force, the ability to use a huge jail in the south of Gobaith and the captain as a judge. These developments took place mainly when Hagen von Rabenfeld was captain, which was one reason why an open conflict between the grandmaster of the Grey Rose Aragon ben Galwen and him broke out, in wich Aragon was killed.

The Town Guard also overstepped their authorities when acting outside town. During the early years this never happened, but especially during the drought and the war with Northerot the town guard became an attack force rather than a guard. This development was never accused though.

Another interesting development is the post length of the captains. When during the initial time Ultoris, Hagen von Rabenfeld and John Irenicus were captains for even several years, recent captains appear to change every few month, as do most town guard members do. One reason for this development might be the unstable government of Troll's Bane and the founding of all the other protective groups like knighthoods, which now also offer posts to protect civilians, while the Town Guard was, next to the Grey Orders, the only protective force in the initial time.

Also, the initial idea of the Town Guard was to not pay the guards, because they were ment to be only people who want to protect their town for good, not for money. Since the governors rule over Troll's Bane a salary was engaged though. The initial oath, which simply was 'For the gods, the town and the comrades', but which was followed stricly, also disappeared during time.

For the recent members, laws and development look at the official Troll's Bane Board or the Town Guard Board.
