Newbies
From Illapedia
Welcome to Illarion, a free fantasy MMORPG. To make your start into the game as easy as possible we have created this brief guide.
Contents |
[edit] 1 Getting started
This guide will help you getting started, it is kept as short as possible. In addition, you should refer to the manual. In order to play Illarion, you need to create a free account and make a character. Please mind the name rules while creating your character.
Next, you can download and start the game. Enter your character's name (not the account name) and your account password. Note that Illarion is a Java application, so you will need Java runtime environment installed. You probably have it already on your computer.
- Download the game and start playing (Online installation).
- Download Java run time 1.6-02 from Illarion.org.
[edit] 2 Newbie Island
Congratulations! You have entered the world of Illarion. In the first moments you might be overwhelmed by all the new impressions: You will see your character, the environment, the inventory and much more. You might wonder how the inventory works, for example, or how to actually move your character, or how to pick things up. But don't worry, we have created a tutorial which explains you how to actually play the game. We call that Newbie Island "Noobia" and your character will have a visit to this beautiful island when you log in for the first time.
[edit] 3 First arrival
Your character will most probably start in the town of Troll's Bane on the island Gobaith. Your character is standing in the local library. Use the arrow keys to walk around and try to find your way out of the door. Let your character say something, e.g. "Hello!", by just typing the text on your keyboard and hitting Enter. Please note that Illarion is a role-playing game. Thus, other players will talk to your character and not to you as player/person.
[edit] 4 What next?
[edit] 4.1 Fighting foes
A very quick way to get resources and train your fighting skills is to slaughter pigs. And best of all, pigs do not fight back! You can find pigs just south of your starting position, follow the small river to a muddy place. Move your mouse over a pig, click the right mouse button and select "Attack". Note that you have to stand next to a pig to kill it. The resources dropped by the pigs can be used for various crafts - or may be sold to crafters to make some money. To pick up things lying on the ground just drag&drop them on empty spaces in your belt or bag. You can open your bag by clicking on it with the right mouse button and choose "Open". When your bag is open, you can also right-click items and choose "Pick up" - the item will be moved into your bag. Please note that most characters do not appreciate it if you attack them without a reason, and doing so may get you killed.
[edit] 4.2 Crafting
Illarion features a complex crafting system. For all crafts your character needs the right tools to use on resources. For more complex crafts you have to stay at a static tool and use your hand tools there.
With the resources you get from slaughtering pigs, you can create your first items. Just northeast from the pigs is the local tavern. There you will find a smoke oven. Face the smoke oven with your character and use the oven while having pork from the pigs. Your character will roast all the pork you have one after one, there is no need for jackhammer clicking, just a bit of patience. Congratulations, you have produced your first goods! You can either eat the ham to satisfy your hunger or sell it to a NPC.
Another option to get food, especially for vegetarian elves, is to harvest fruits from the trees of the town.
[edit] 4.3 NPCs
Not all NPCs buy or sell every item. To sell your ham, visit Morgan Gronwan. You can find him easily when you follow the town wall to the east, later north until you reach the gate tower - he is inside.
Let your character say "I would like to sell X hams" where X is the number of hams you want to sell. Or ask him for "help" first to get information about the NPC commands in this game. Note: You can only interact with NPCs with these text commands, mouse control is not possible. NPCs also sell many useful tools needed for other crafts.
[edit] 5 Roleplaying
Illarion is a "true" role-playing game. You are supposed to play your character like a role in a theatre play. There is no script and no stage director, so you can do whatever you like and let your character live his own life. The goals of Illarion are not to become the best in every skill, pwn as many monsters as possible and PK noobs but to play a being in this independent, mysterious world.
[edit] 6 Need help?
[edit] 6.1 Help ingame
In case you need help with the game, inform other players that you are new to the game, most players are rather friendly and will help you immediately. Try to stay in character as long as possible, use the OOC speech mode if you need out of character help, e.g. with the interface. You may also send a petition to the game masters by typing "!gm [your petition]".
[edit] 6.2 Technical problems
In case you encounter a technical problem with Illarion, bug the technical staff, e.g. Nitram. In case you encounter a bug, report it on the bugtracker.
