Illapedia:Guidelines

These are some recommendations how to write a good article on Illapedia:

[edit] 1 Do...

  • ...use proper english or german and proof read your articles (use "Show preview"). Pay attention to the title, especially!
  • ...use a layout that is common among Illapedia - you may orientate on Wikipedia - and read the Formatting Help
  • ...use a simple layout but refrain from chaotic use of brackets, abbreviations, pics in a text and "wiki gadgets"
  • ...add whatever you know about a topic immediately - a short article is better than no article!
  • ...use examples to illustrate what you wrote about technical aspects
  • ...use pictures and screenshots from the game (keep an eye on the file size)
  • ...create complete articles about a subject for convenience instead of many stub articles
  • ...translate good texts you find
  • ...contribute everything you consider interesting, like infos about your guild, your character or the history of the island
  • ...make use of headings. Avoid additional formatting in a heading. e.g. use "===Text===" instead of "'''Text'''" and "==Text==" instead of "=='''Text'''=="
  • ...reserve the main heading "=Text=" for page titles, thus, do not use it at all
  • ...use existing categories like "Guilds", "Skills", "Races" etc. or create new ones

[edit] 2 Don't...

  • ...write complete solutions for quests in every detail. Spoilers tend to spoil fun
  • ...write down too many unnecessary details that might be subject to change at any time
  • ...start an "edit war"
  • ...post information that changes on a daily basis, especially about ingame events
  • ...use your Illapedia article as your guild board or topic
  • ...create redundant articles, there is no need to separate e.g. the town Tol Vanima from the island and the guild/government
  • ...create empty articles or wipe an article without placing a redirect to a valid article
  • ...put links into a heading. That looks ugly!
  • ...discuss inside an article ever. Use the discussion page instead!
  • ...hesitate to change an article - there are no sacred "staff only - do not edit"-articles, including this one
  • ...ask for permission to change something - do it!
