[edit] 2 Descriptions
[edit] 2.1 Chain helmet
A helmet made from many small rings. Even though such a helmet takes many days to craft, it offers low protection.
[edit] 2.2 Round steel hat
A round steel hat has much in common with an ordinary hat, except that the material is different. In fact, its form is usually inspired by hats of commoners. These simple helmets can be crafted from a single sheet of metal and thus, are not very expensive yet effective. It does no hamper neither breathing nor sight and offers fair protection against attacks from above. This makes the steel hat a good choice for an unmounted warrior who might get hit on his head by knights or missles. Guardians in Albar often wear helmets like this.

Individual champions are equipped with these horrible looking helmets and animal furs, their faces covered with war paint. With loud battlecries, they charge their enemies, the horns of these helmets making them look like raging bulls. That they fall by dozends to the spears of any salkamaerian phalanx is a different story...

[edit] 2.10 Orc helmet
Wearing helmets is not common among orcs during hunt season. Since helmets block the sight and are cumbersome, most orcish hunters refrain from wearing them. Also, usually deers and bears are kept at distance with spears and javelines, so helmets are not necessary. In the rare case that an orcish tribe decides to go to war, the chieftains wear massive helmets, decorated with horns of slain animals as token of their bravery and for the tribe members being able to make out their chief on the battlefield. The protection effect is questionable, though.
