Fishing is a rather simple craft, all you need is a Fishing Rod in your hands, and shift+click it infront of a water tile. Once this happens your character will start catching fish and other things, including Buckets, Oillamps, leather boots and sometimes even more rare things such as treasure maps!

At times it may be so that your fishing line breaks, all you need to do then is use Thread with it

Lizards have the special ability to be able to fish using their claws. Simply by shift+clicking a water tile they are next to, they can start fishing for items in a similar way people with a fishing rod would. Doing this also increases the fishing skill, however fishing in this manner will not get you any treasure maps.
