Crafting

Illarion features a very complex crafting system. Almost all items ingame, be it swords, wands or goblets, can be made by players. The common procedure is to gather raw materials, refine them and finally, craft products. Each step alone can make a complete profession and players are adviced not to try to do all by themselves but to cooperate and interact. A miner could sell the mined ore to a smith who forged weapons for the warrior; a mining, smithing warrior will never become as great, famous and good as somebody who focusses on a craft.
For crafting, one needs tools; static tools like anvils, workbenches or ovens and hand tools like hammers, saws and peels. Equipped with those one can start gathering materials.

Resource gathering is one of the three parts of crafting. This involves getting materials needed to craft a particular item. Certain resources for an item may be in one spot, but then another resource needed may be in a completely different spot.

This is the final stage of crafting. It involves actually creating finished goods out of materials, obtained in resource gathering, and refined resources, obtained in by refining materials of a more raw form.
